Knobbys Nuggets

Sometimes a bike just grabs you and all you have time for is a quick photo or two so that you can look back without having to rely on the ever reducing grey cells keeping it together.

Simply put, here begins a collection of snaps, taken on the fly, from various venues during our travels. No long winded explanations, just simply some pictures and some statistics if available. They may be ones that never made into a post but are too good to be left forgotten in a folder on one of our PC’s.

Where possible any resource will be referenced and permission will be asked, otherwise forgiveness will be begged.
Sometimes its just nice to enjoy a visual feast.

If you recognise one of the bikes and want to share more information with us, reach out to us through our contact page.

Another Scott Wot!

I was at a bit of a loss on Sunday , as my weekend achievements so far had been totaled up and reached a big zero.

To get this off the mark, I rounded up Knob Jr and headed to the Auckland ‘Caffeine and Classics’ to eyeball other peoples elderly tat. This event is held on the last Sunday of every month at Smales Farm on Aucklands sunny North Shore. Except, that is, on the day I turned up. The Event had been moved so that a whole load of people could run up onto the Auckland harbour bridge and take some selfies, under the guise of a ‘Marathon’.

1937 OK Supreme GP 250

knobby : April 27, 2018 8:05 pm : Knobbys Nuggets

A work mate, Donny, was in the deep south this week ( In NZ that means Invercargill ) and popped into the Motorcycle Mecca cafe for a cuppa. Now Donny isnt a motorcyclist (yet?) but knowing my affliction for them, sent me and our Guvnor, these pics of the OK Supreme that is displayed in the cafe. more »

knobby : April 14, 2018 10:40 pm : Knobbys Nuggets

Spotted at the Classic Racing at Pukekohe in February this year.

As you know we’ve always had a soft spot for the stinkwheel and here’s a lovely example of a GTP from Velocette. more »

19(something something) OEC , with flair

knobby : February 9, 2018 4:58 am : Knobbys Nuggets

McSnotty and I were swanning about at the racing down at the Pukekohe racetrack last weekend and I spotted this OEC in the big Marquee. Its a fair way from Factory original 😉 but who cares, I think its awesome.

There wasn’t any supporting information with the motorcycle but every time i look at it I see more amazing examples of the thought, time and effort put into building this motorcycle. It might not be your cup of tea, but its still a remarkable feat.

Ive made these picture bigger than usual so you can see more. For even more detail open the image blow by clicking on it then right click  on the expanded image and select ‘Save Image As’ to download the photo’s then open up on your PC and zoom to your hearts content. more »

1907 Indian Camelback

knobby : December 9, 2017 10:35 pm : Knobbys Nuggets

Ahh , the original Moped. This one lives at Transport World in Invercargill NZ and was snapped by McSnotty using his incredibly complex camera with LTTH (look through this hole) and PTB  (press this button) technology to help produce these lovely photos. There’s some history also available at the link from Transport World more »

19xx Junior??

knobby : November 17, 2017 9:15 pm : Knobbys Nuggets

This was spotted at the Hayes motorcycle collection. Its amazing what you can turn out with what looks like parts of an old BMX, an ancient stinkwheel motor, some tube and , as McSnotty would say “a bit of electric glue” (welder). more »

1924 AJS 2 3/4 Model B

knobby : September 30, 2017 10:11 pm : Knobbys Nuggets

As I said when I created the Nuggets section, sometimes there’s photos just lying around on your PC , that have no particular context.

Here’s a couple i re-discovered from, what my sketchy memory is telling, the Far North Vintage Car Club Autospectacular from back in 2010. more »

1916 Thor Model U

knobby : September 20, 2017 6:03 am : Knobbys Nuggets

These Thor photos were captured by McSnotty and the resurrection his Kodak Instamatic from yesteryear.

A handsome beast we both agree and whats caught his eye is the unabashed and liberal use of the eye-popping colour (or eye gouging depending on taste).

WLA Harley

knobby : August 26, 2017 3:38 am : Knobbys Nuggets

What is it about elderly Harleys that continue to fascinate and draw ones attention. I saw this one at Pukekohe and after chatting with it owner, took what I though was a myriad of photos but it turned out to be just the one and so Ive made it a biggie. (Sorry McS, you’ll need your dial up broadband connected a little longer) more »

1929 500cc Scott Squirrel (exact pedigree unknown, though not a Chipmunk)

knobby : August 2, 2017 6:44 am : Knobbys Nuggets

There was a time when this bikes current owner was somewhat disparaging of the mighty stinkwheel, but after a brief foray into some scrambles shenanigans way back in the 80s ( and subsequently left there due to infirmity ), has seen him warm to, and collect, an interesting array of motorcycles powered by Sir Dugald Clerks finest. more »
