A Bit of Christmas Cheer.

This is closed now and our winner is FLAT TANK from Australia. We’ll be in touch and get the book in the mail.

Be in to win something FREE. Surely not!

Yep the silly season makes us all do silly things and the boys at Barnstormers Central have decided to give away a book. In true form it has lotsa pictures, easy words for McStupid and his sidekick Knarley to understand, and for one such lucky Barnstormer reader it will be a nice addition to their library.

The book is Motorbikes Around New Zealand by Matthew Wright.

It is softback with 144 pages covering motorcycles from the early years of 1899 to present day from around New Zealand. Don’t be fooled by the picture of the modern bikes on the bottom half of the front cover as they are only a small portion of what is inside. More indicative of content would be the top photograph which is of our very own Percy Colemean on a stripped down Royal Enfield (one of Knobsters favourite makes)  500 4 valve road machine at Waikanae Beach in the early 1930s.  There are more of previously unpublished photos from the early years with approxamately two thirds of the book on pre 1950s machines. Text is brief which leaves you more time to ponder from which these these pictures came.

Two of the typical photos from the book depicting early New Zealand motorcycling.

I just love old photos, I can stare at them for hours and everytime I do I see something different. Words can be changed but it is difficult to alter a photograph so what you see is what was taken so many years ago. As they say “time is captured” and it certainly is in these excellent reproductions. Don’t you all wish you had a copy?

The competition is open to all users of Barnstormers.co.nz (national and international), is for one only book titled Motorbikes Around New Zealand, includes free postage to your nominated address and will run until midnight Thursday 17th December 2009. We will draw a winner on Friday and notify them through their email address. We would like to have this delivered by christmas however it may not be possible for overseas postal.
