A nice 34 page catalogue for B.S.A.s 1915 single cylinder models of various design for different occasions. The catalogue is listed as B.S.A. Motor Bicycles for Solo and Sidecar Export Edition. It wasn’t until 1919 that BSA introduced their 770cc Model E V twin for the 1920 season so single cylinder models were the mainstay of the line up for customers in 1915 wishing a 2 wheeled steed. The plate illustrations are of excellent detail for those who may be restoring such machines, my favourite photograph being the one of mass exodus of workers leaving the factory for their midday dinner at home, both male and female, all very well dressed.
There were 3 models – The 4 1/2 hp (557cc) side valve Model K, a machine fitted with a 3 speed countershaft gearbox with chain-cum-belt final drive, the 4 1/2 hp (557cc) Model H also fitted with B.S.A.s own 3 speed countershaft gearbox but with total chain drive, and the 3 1/2 hp Tourist Trophy Model D fitted with a variable engine pulley and belt only drive.
Included in the catalogue is a description of B.S.A.s own 3 speed gearbox and instructions for adjustments. And unlike other motorcycles of the time that were using AMAC or B&B carburettors B.S.A. had their own semi automatic variable jet carburettor. Of course there are Hints on Riding a B.S.A. Motor Bicycle.
