1936 James Sales Leaflet.

Not sure of the true year of this leaflet so have listed it as 1936 just as a reference. Printed by Skeates and White, a prominent Auckland dealer from the 1920s up to the 1960s it was quite clear that as the main importer for the Auckland area they were doing their best to sell James motorcycles in the 1930s.
The attractiveness of the James was its simplicity – less moving parts than a 4 stroke, cheaper to run, and easier to work on.
An interesting and well used leaflet, not sure who actually assembled it though, perhaps a salesman who didn’t read the factory release, or perhaps the tea lady as the errors are quite amusing. From the James engine being manufactured by the James Company when it actually is a Villiers engine, and the bit I like is the description of the wheels – ‘19 inch drop center rims, spokes are properly spaced (really??) and are tough, yet elastic enough to cushion the shocks’. Still laughing on that one.
Be very interesting to know how many James motorcycles were sold by Skeates and White in the 1930s.
