After WW2 the management at Triumph Engineering, Coventry decided that the world was now more advanced with motorcycle design and that they couldn’t really see a place for their war style single cylinder machines for post war riders. As such they would only concentrate on twin cylinder motorcycles. So for 1949 they only offered up 3 models – the 3T, a 350cc twin, the 5T and the T100, both 500cc twin cylinder models. Comparing them to the likes of Royal Enfield who for 1949 had 6 different models on the showroom floor it was truely a brave move to offer less but perhaps a great display of confidence in their product reliability.
There was a few options available for the motorcycles – Triumphs Spring Wheel (also known as the Sprung Hub) and Triumphs own petrol tank parcel grid, or tank rack. Very handy for securing small items on top of the petrol tank safely without damaging to paintwork, they were discontinued in the late 1960s. I even had one fitted to my Royal Enfield.
It is a shame that some scans cannot do true justice to the item that is being copied, and this is one of those situations. The colouring on some of the pages is really outstanding. Just as well I have the original and can admire it any time that I want. But for originality and owners restoring a 1949 Triumph this catalogue could be very handy to have in your library.
