Burt Munro aged 58 at the Pioneer Club Flying Half Mile outside Christchurch NZ. Timed at 143.5 mph.
Our man Burt would definitely have to be a true Barnstormer. His dedication to the modifications of his vintage Indian Scout was outstanding. Even though his Indian and Velo race bikes were never that pretty they were exceptionally fast. Naturally every keen vintage-ite would have a copy of the movie depicting his racing efforts, The Worlds Fastest Indian, on their bookcase. As well there are two good books following his exploits
– Burt Munro Indian Legend of Speed by George Begg.
– One Good Run The Legend of Burt Munro by Tim Hanna.
Both are a good read.
