1930 The Book of the Douglas.

The Motorcyclists Library The Book of the Douglas is well assembled and covers Douglas motorcycles from 1924 up to 1930, more so the later 1920s machines. It is not as comprehensive as a modern day manual but probably the most helpful publication of the time and even now for those who own a vintage Douglas for rallying in more modern times.
There are some excellent photographs of various machines including Douglas’ 1923 Model RA I.O.M model and images from the factory floor. Perhaps the most valuable would be diagrams of the lubrication systems, how to manage the oil site glass adjustment, valve clearances and how to fiddle with the carburettor for optimum performance. And if you were just a little bit curious there is a photograph of Douglas’ optional hand start lever.
We have left out the repeditive road rules and how to ride a motorcycle section as they are not really applicable for a more modern NZ.
The 1930 models covered are – the Model L3 – a 350cc sv, the H3 – another 350 sv, the T.6 – a 600cc sv, the S.5 – a 500cc sv and the S.6 – a 600cc sv. OHV models were represented with the road going SW.5 and SW6 – 500cc and 600cc machines respectively, and Douglas’ dirt track racing models the DT5 and DT6, again 500cc and 600cc respectively. The SW models are interesting in that they are DT models just fitted with front and rear brakes, and same as the DT they are push start ie have no kickstarter. A machine for a rider of athletic build perhaps.
