Make of it what you will it cannot be denied that BSA produced some very handsome looking motorcycles, from the 1929 BSA Sloper right up to the unit construction A50/A65 twin cylinder models, especially the A65 Spitfire. So this 1936 catalogue is not any different, it has stunningly detailed images from the coloured drawing cover through to the many and varied models, something for everyone as they say. With 17 models on offer was there any other manufacturer that had as many different machines rolling of the production line? Not that I can think of nor find in my library.
So categorizing the various models we have –
149cc . . . . Model XO 1.49hp OHV with hand change.
250cc . . . . Model B1 – 2.49hp Side Valve with hand change, Model B2 – 2.49hp OHV with hand change, Model B18 – 2.49hp OHV Light Deluxe with hand change.
350cc . . . . Model R4 3.48hp OHV Deluxe, Model R19 3.48hp OHV Deluxe Competition, Model R17 3.48hp OHV Standard, Model R20 3.48 OHV New Blue Star.
